Mike Roberts, owner of The N16 Web Works ( www.n16webworks.com ), offers a brief insight into local websites. If you would like your website mentioned in future issues, contact us on info@n16mag.com .

Believe me, never give a magazine editor an even break. Just because people seemed to have enjoyed my last article on Stoke Newington On Line (see N16, issue 10), the said editor of this august organ decided that I should produce a regular column. He said he wanted something that explored the good, the bad and the downright weird web sites that cover the Stoke Newington area. So here goes.

I am often asked where to find a decent list of local painters, decorators, etc., and one web site above all covering the N16 area is the Yellow Book produced by Holden Matthews Estate Agent. As a long-time resident of Stoke Newington I have used their printed Yellow Book for years. All the companies and services listed have been included because local people have recommended them. And now this great resource is available on line.

A site which has only just come online but is already a firm favourite amongst those who have visited it is a wonderful virtual tour of Abney Park Cemetery produced by Digitaldreamwor1d. With its use of the latest technology, you can get a real feel for the place. The site offers eleven 36O-degree views of the cemetery, each of which is hauntingly beautiful.

Staying on the historical theme, my third featured site for this issue is part of the Hackney Council site, but don't let that put you off. The Hackney Historic Images site provides a great sampler of the many thousands of old photographs in the Hackney Archives. For example, a search for AII-Subjects in Stoke Newington Church Street returned 33 matches.

If you need to send a quick e-mail postcard, a good place to start is the Parish of St Mary's website. They have a lovely selection of views of the church on their postcard section. It's allvery quick and simple and they have some wonderful views of the church.

I've always been fascinated by the art of tattooing, but have never succumbed. However, if you want to get a view of the world of tattoo and body art why not visit the Sacred Artsite based on Albion Road.

When visiting these local political sites I have always kept an open mind. These views relate directly to the quality of the site not their political content. The Conservatives and Greens have still to get their local acts together.
