Summer is here and Clissold Park is the target for thousands of people looking for their little bit of space to enjoy the weather. However, one of the problems with Clissold Park is the ever present danger of standing or even sitting in dog shit. To quote from Shit On My Shoe, a new Stoke Newington site, 'the smelly stuff that ends up on our shoes, wheelchairs and buggies comes from the estimated 6.8 million dogs sniffing around Britain today. They unload a staggering 900 tonnes of the stuff in our parks, on our streets etc. every day. Our own Clissold Park positively hums on a summer's day. If you want it different, you've come to the right place'.

This small, humorous site deserves our praise for pointing out the dangers of dog shit. With notes to dogs, their owners and to all concerned citizens, this site should be shown to every dog owner who does not clear up the mess their dogs leave behind.

tle.jpgThree other sites which deal with Clissold Park are well worth visiting. www.clissoldpark.com and www.clissodpark.ground-level.org   provide a good guide to what is happening in the park and are maintained by the Clissold Park User Group. The third site, Oh Deer, is another campaigning site, this time dedicated to saving the deer and other animals who are under threat from council cutbacks. www.bansee.co.uk/oh-deer

New web sites are coming on line all the time and so here is a round up of just some that have caught the eye.

Ryan's Bar has launched its site with news of what's on, a sports diary for the major TV events and, best of all, their complete Thai food menu so that you can order a great takeaway. Although the menu is online you need to phone the order through. And then take a stroll along, stop for a drink and take your meal home. What a good idea. Why can't more takeaway services place their menus on line? I for one can never find where I placed the printed ones, or I'd thrown them in the bin only to regret it later.

The Minx Club, in the basement of the Barracuda Restaurant, is a wonderful venue to view top acoustic acts. Their site contains a complete diary of events and you can book on line. Alas, the Minx Club is now taking a well-deserved break through the summer, but the autumn season is due to be posted very soon. Many of their gigs sell out early so it's worth watching out for new events and booking early.

White HartIf you are looking for antique furniture and craftsman purpose-built furniture or you have something that needs restoration, then a visit to Classic & Modern Interiors is definitely worthwhile. Formerly known as French Interiors, their web site provides a clear view of the fantastic work they produce and the ever-changing selection of antiques they stock.

If bikes are your thing, then a new shop on Church Street is just the thing for you. Two Wheels Good brings a sense of fun to the task of buying a modern bicycle. To quote from their web site, 'Whilst there is no shortage of shops to cater for the `serious" cyclist, they are sometimes intimidating for the novice and even for those who consider themselves well informed. Unfortunately these are often the only places where decent kit and meaningful advice can be obtained. Fine if you happen to be a full-on psychedelic lycra clad beanpole with shaven legs and a pointed head, but what about the rest of us? The aim of Two Wheels Good is to bridge this gap. Our mission statement, insofar as we believe in such bollocks, is to provide our customers with the best quality and value for money products available, combined with the kind of friendly and non-patronising service they almost always deserve.'

As a final aside I was searching the web through Google and looking for things to do with the kids this summer. I  typed in 'what's on for children London' and was particularly taken with an event at King's College entitled Locking up Children. So even the great Google search engine can slip up every now and then.
