Ryan's kicks off its December gigs with 'Feline Groovy', sexy cat kickin' tunes from Nick and Robert on 7th (8.30, free), and continues with a Xmas special acoustic night on 11th. Spaghetti West One continue their homage to Sergio Leone on 15th (£2) while the following evening sees a Salsa Special, with buffet after the classes. On 18th Flim Flam offer an alternative jazz night. On 22nd there is live classical jazz in the afternoon.

The Stoke Tup continues its 'Acousticism' evenings with Mike Gibson on 11th and is hosting an 'Open Mic' session on 18th. The Vortex has its usual full programme of quality jazz throughout the month. Highlights include the Stan Tracey Trio on the 7th , Martin Speake with Ethan Iverson on the 10th, Sarah-Jane Morris on the 18th, and
Carol Grimes and Ian Shaw on New Year's Eve. Pick up a programme at the bar for full details. Booth's is staging its normal programme of DJs from Thursday to Sunday, with special DJ evenings on Xmas Eve and New Year's Eve till late. Clicia is putting on live acoustic music on Sunday evenings and Firefly has a full programme of live bands on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, and is featuring live jazz and poetry on both Xmas Eve and New Year's Eve. The Londesborough has DJs every night of the week, including Xmas Eve and New Year's Eve.

The Auld Shillelagh is hosting the Peel Me a Grape Xmas party on 14th and Frank and the Ratpack will be welcoming in 2003 on New Year's Eve. Tattoo John from the Alabama 3 will be DJ-ing on alternate Friday nights throughout the month.

Bar Lorca is hosting The Night of the Strange Fruttes on Sundays, a live jam session, and Thursdays Go Live!, unsurprisingly on Thursdays. Friday night is Latin Vibes with Tropicana DJs and Dirty Habits ­ a boogie-on-down disco night ­ is on Saturdays. 'Noche Bueno' ­ a gran fiesta with DJs playing classic dance floor and top Latin pop is the entertainment for Xmas Eve.

Emma Peel Fan Club

Emma Peel Fan Club posterThe Emma Peel Fan Club appears at Ocean on 21st, accompanied by Jackie Clune, DJ Ritu, TV's 'Bad Girls' and compere Jean T. A blend of 60s soul and psychedelic rock. (£16 advance, £13 conc, 8pm). The New Year's event is 'Bugged Out Meets The Boutique'. Room 1 has Jacques Lu Conti, Tom Middleton, FC Kahun and a live band (tbc); Room 2 has Andrew Weatherall (haywire sessions), Radioactive Man (live), Bass Junkies and Andrew Curley. (£20 advance, 8pm till late.)

Down in Dalston The Jazz Club presents its Pink Panther nights ­ 'gay, lesbian n' mixed gender chilled extravaganzas' ­ on Thursday nights, admission free. On Fridays and Saturdays DJs play Jack Jones, Frank Sinatra and Bossa Nova (020 7254 9278).
