Christmas is a time for giving, receiving and having fun, so let's see what the web can come up with this time.

Ambling through Stoke Newington over the last couple of weeks I have been amazed at the number of quite reasonable computers that have been dumped ready for the dustman. Think recycling. It really is a waste to throw those machines away as there are a number of charities that will pick up old machines and find new homes for them. The two main UK ones are Computer Aid, which sends refurbished computers to the developing world, and Computers for Charity, which will place reconditioned machines with community groups. And while on the subject of disposing of old gear, if you are like me and get through loads of inkjet cartridges then don't bin them. There are several recycling schemes, details of which can be found at www.wastewatch.org.uk/informtn/toner.htm#services   There is also an excellent guide to all sorts of recycling, including bikes, books CDs and household goods on The Guardian web site, always an interesting site to explore.

We welcome to this page Flowers N16 as Erroll has just launched his new website, which features news and events as well as details of the wide range of services which Flowers N16 can offer. There is plenty to see and we are assured that it will be expanding. If you are stuck for a floral quote then the site is worth a trip because each page is headed by a quote which changes every time you visit the page. Go Erroll Go! www.flowersn16.com   Then have a look at Joanne's Plantique who have offered an online ordering service for some while. It is worth checking both sites out if you want to order flowers, as they offer two contrasting styles.

If you have just treated the family to a new computer, then safety online is a must. Some excellent information can be downloaded from Highbury Park-based NCH, one of the UK's leading children's charities. And while you're there, have a look round at the work NCH does in fostering and adoption.

Looking for things to do? Then a trip to the theatre or cinema always seems to please. The Arcola Theatre just down the road towards Dalston is well worth a visit. It has firmly established itself as a class act. The web site has information about current and future productions which is clear and to the point. It also has details of the cafe and gallery shows.

And we can't forget the Rio Cinema whose web site has details of its extensive programme of films. Each major film has a good in-depth review so you know what you are in for. It also has a clear guide to all the children's films coming up. My only slight worry was that details for the programme between the end of November and January had not been put up when I visited towards the end of November. The site just had a note saying that the information would be up by 13 November.

While on a cultural theme, The Geffrey Museum's web site has an excellent guide to its wide range of events over the Christmas period. If you have never visited the museum before, this is a great time to get along, as each of its display rooms of domestic interiors from 1600 to the present day are decorated in the seasonal style of each setting. More details can be found on the web site.

If you have young kids then a great place for them to let off steam is at Zoomaround in Milton Grove. This indoor adventure play centre offers spills and thrills for all the family. It also has a good cafe so you can while away the time with a coffee or something more substantial. The web site is clear and easy to move around. However, it would be nice to have a few pictures of the play area itself. A good one to bookmark with kids in mind.

We are always interested to hear from local people who want to have their web sites reviewed and so it was good to receive information about one local artist's site. Scott Poulson is a world-renowned artist and his web site gives a good platform to show his spectacular work. I was most struck by the fantastic 'wallpaper' I will say no more but go and check it out.

One site that I have never reviewed is our own N16 site. My only reason for giving it the once over at this point in time is because it's growing rapidly. For sometime now you have been able go back as far as issue 8 and, since the last issue, we have added a Google search engine. However, we have had many requests for the site to have every issue. And so, in response your wish is our command. All back issues will be on line shortly. We would like to develop the site further so that it becomes an integral part of the life of Stoke Newington. Let us know what else you would like to see included on the site and we will see what we can do.

And a final site for one day only is a real charmer for young kids on Christmas Eve. Operated by the US Air Force, it gives you the chance to track Father Christmas in real time as he delivers his presents all around the world. The live 'tracking' of Santa will commence at noon on 24 December and continue on until 10 am on Christmas Day. You can visit the site before as it has lots of general Christmas info. This really is great fun and well worth the visit.
