Stoke Newington's N16 Magazine is delighted to be promoting a musical weekend on 9-11 December. We have hired three venues, each of which will be hosting different types of music on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. The programme is as follows:
Friday evening
Fresh from their triumphant concert at the N16 Fringe in August and a subsequent Canadian tour, Stoke Newington's own Mediaeval Baebes will present their Christmas Concert at St Mary's Church.
The building will resound with carols and mediaeval plainsong as the 8-strong Baebes and their musicians welcome Christmas in their own inimitable, harmonising, style. Doors open at 7.30pm, concert begins 8pm. Entrance £12 to include a glass of mulled wine. Tickets available on the door, from
www.mediaevalbaebes.com
or from Booth's Bar on Church Street from 2 December.
Saturday evening
Stoke Newington's leading country rock combo, the City Farmers, fronted by local guitar hero Mike Gibson, headline at the atmospheric Old St Mary's Church, with support from two other popular local bands, Washington Rays and Luxury Condo. The last gig at the Old Church - also featuring City Farmers - was one of the big successes of the last N16 Fringe and we expect this to be just as memorable. Doors open at 7pm, gig begins 7.30pm. Entrance £5, pay bar.
Sunday evening
After a summer of European Festivals, recording and touring the States, M.A.S.S make a welcome return to Stoke Newington. Also on the bill tonight, one of the best local live bands are the incendiary Monkey Island, with bright new things Soixante Neuf and the fast-rising Turncoats. Probably the live highlight of the year.
The Others, 6 - 8 Manor Road, N16 (020 8802 3755). Doors open at 7pm, bands on stage 7.30pm. Entrance £5, pay bar.
