The Hackney Empire has another full and fascinating programme over the summer. On 11 June Henry Rollins, the frenetic, one-time frontman for punk legends Black Flag, gives a spoken word performance as part of his ongoing world tour. Don’t miss this. The man is a legend.

Shaman, offering spectacular choreography and music on the history of Anatolia begins on 12 June, and the Oxford Stage Company presents a rich, theatrical production of the greatest epic poem in the English language, Paradise Lost, beginning on 27 June. The Empire is also staging the Spice Festival, between 9 and 23 July, featuring the likes of Lost Vagueness, Michael Nyman, Rock’n’Roll Cinema and Trojan Sound System.

For details of prices and times of these and other events at the Empire ring 020 8985 2424 or visit www.hackneyempire.co.uk.

As we go to press, the Rio Cinema has not forwarded us its programme for June, but it kicks off with, in the first week of the month, Enron: The Smartest Guys In The Room, the story behind the infamous Enron scandal, currently being played out in the US courts. Greed is good? Don’t think so. Find out more on 020 7241 9410, mail@riocinema.org.uk or www.riocinema.ndirect.co.uk.

The Arcola Theatre presents Zenzi Zenzi: The Pursuit, from 13-24 June, a physical theatre piece by Adam Marvel. On 29 and 30 June, the Theatre hosts Peter Weiss’s The Investigation, a dramatic reconstruction of the Frankfurt War Crimes trials, based on the actual evidence given. N16 Magazine is promoting the N16 Fringe Festival on 10-13 August. We would be delighted to hear from performers, artists, actors, poets, comedians, dancers and anyone who might be interested in becoming involved in the Fringe. Although our principal focus is on local music, we would like to broaden our programme to include performance of all and any descriptions. If you’d like to become involved, email us on info@n16mag.com or visit our website www.n16fringe.co.uk which will be going live, with full details of the programme, towards the end of June.

In the meanwhile, if you have any forthcoming events which you’d like us to promote on Stoke Newington’s favourite website – www.n16mag.com - then email us on the above address.
