Time To Show The World The Real Hackney

Local people are invited to show the world the real Hackney by taking part in an exciting filming project.

All you need to do is pick up a camera and think; what does Hackney Life mean to me? And then record your view of the area and upload it via YouTube at www.youtube.com/hackneylife2012 for the chance to be part of a film that will be screened during the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Hackney Museum has teamed up with award-winning local production company Mosaic Films to produce a short documentary from material submitted by people who live in Hackney. The organisers are looking for contributions from across the borough, from filmmakers or those who have never picked up a camera before. Submissions are open until 12 March 2012 and people who have material selected will be credited as co-directors.

People wanting to take part are asked to think about the following questions when deciding what to submit:

What does Hackney mean to you?

What’s your favourite place or person in Hackney and why?

What do you want the rest of the world to know about Hackney?

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing Hackney today?

Once the call for submissions closes, Mosaic Films and staff from Hackney Museum will edit the material submitted into a short film, which will premiere in summer 2012.

This exciting project is part of Mapping the Change, a unique history project about the people of Hackney and the impact of the Olympic and Paralympic Games on their lives. It is capturing the many voices of Hackney's hugely diverse communities by working with community groups, local artists and individuals to produce photographic, digital media, text, and audio based records of the changes and people's responses to them.

Hackney Museum is free and visitors can find out about Hackney past and present. There are hands-on activities for all the family; sail the Saxon boat, try on historical costumes, make Victorian matchboxes against the clock. Hackney Museum hosts events and activities throughout the year and during the school holidays.

Film contributions should be uploaded to YouTube by midnight on 12 March 2012 for the chance to be included.Find out more at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and the full brief is online at mosaicfilms.com/2012/01/hackney-life.php
