| Hackney Council 'on schedule' for 20mph scheme for all residential streets in the borough |
|
Following Islington's implementation of 20mph limits on all residential roads last year, Hackney Council, in response to a question to the Full Council from London Assembly candidate Anna Hughes, Cllr Demirci (Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods) has confirmed that the Council is on schedule to complete works to support this scheme by the end of the current financial year. Green Party London Assembly Candidate Anna Hughes said "this is exciting news for Hackney residents who can look forward to safer, quieter and less polluted streets, which will encourage more walking and cycling. This is great for the community and good for our health." Caroline Allen, Green Greater London Assembly candidate for North East London, said "if they want to make a real difference to the health and well-being of residents, they should include the main roads, where collisions are concentrated and air pollution is highest. The many Hackney residents who live, work and shop on the main roads deserve the benefits of 20mph limits too" |
