Pubcos - vote against them now

Put a stop to the rape of the British Pub Industry.

At last there's a campaign to put the brakes on the evil monoliths that control huge swathes of the British Pub Industry. Deadline 14th June - Click here and Vote Now.

Basically these huge corporations buy up public houses and then rent them back to publicans at an enormous rent. They then force the publican to buy their beer only from them, at far more than the normal market price. This forces up the price of a pint, drives the normal drinking public away from the traditional local meeting places - the pub, or else plays into the hands of those other monoliths Wetherspoons, Yates etc who are chipping away at the price that small breweries can get paid, and slowly strangle the industry from that end.

Young Palestinians to visit Hackney in July

Pupils at an UNRWA school in the Occupied Palestine Territories. The trip is based around a drama theme 'In Our Place', comparing and contrasting what it's like to live in the Occupied Palestine Territories and the UK. The young people will take part in daily drama workshops, culminating with a performance at the end of the week.

Three of the group of sixteen young women and their teacher will be staying in Hackney from 6 - 16 July. The others will be staying in Camden and Tower Hamlets, as guests of the relevant Friendship Associations there (Camden Abu Dis  Friendship Association and Tower Hamlets Jenin Friendship Association). On the mornings of Tuesday 10, Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 they will be visiting schools, then taking part in a range of sporting and cultural events locally. Offers to visit would be most welcome.

On Thursday 12 July there will be a Public Meeting 6.30 - 8pm at CLR James Dalston Library, Dalston Square, E8, at which local people will have a chance to find out from the young people 'What's life like as a child living in the Occupied Palestine Territories?' There will be a short film, books and a small selection of Palestinian goods for sale. Refreshments will be available.

The trip has been organised by Beit Sourik Hackney Friendship Association in conjunction with CADFA. For more information contact Sally Haywill at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or on 020 8802 4604.
