Residents of Hackney can do their bit to help the Council set a speedy record for waste and recycling collections this Summer.
The Council is hoping to get off their marks quickly, leaving depots at 5.30am to enable collections to start on the 'b' of the bang at the earlier time of 6am (collections usually begin at 6.30am).
Recycling collected from street level properties will be separated at a materials recovery facility rather than at the kerbside during Games time, this should reduce the time vehicles spend idling on Hackney's roads.
Different vehicles with larger capacities will also be used to reduce congestion on the roads at busy times.
As waste and recycling collection teams seek to clear busy areas early to keep the roads clear collections may not occur at the usual time, but will take place on the same advertised collection days.
Residents of flats above shops will still need to place out their waste and recycling during their usual timebands to help keep pavements and streets clear.
Cllr Feryal Demirci, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: "These plans have been drawn up to minimise disruption to residents and to allow us to speed up the way we do things, make sure your waste and recycling is placed out the night before so that we're ready to collect at 6am.
"We'd like everybody to do their bit this summer to help show off Hackney to the world as we welcome visitors from far and wide."
Waste collections will begin at 6am from 23 July, while 6am collections for recycling will commence on 30 July.
