Hackney to launch its revised Voluntary Sector Grants Programme
Hackney Council is set to launch its revised Voluntary and Community Sector Grants Programme for 2013/14, which will see local voluntary and community sector (VCS) organisations benefit from grant funding to support projects for Hackney residents.
VCS groups who want to find out more about the programme are invited to attend a free launch event at the Hackney Picturehouse on Thursday 5 July at 10am. The event will include information on the different grant types available and how to apply for a grant as well as presentations from organisations who have benefited from the funding.
Following a consultation with VCS colleagues, Hackney Council has reviewed and made changes to its grants programme. Key additions include the introduction of specialist grants for key services, two rounds of applications will now be offered for small grants and Community Chest grants of up to £1000 for events and activities will now be available to encourage Hackney's smaller community groups to apply for funds. Improvements have also been made to the application process, which can now be done via an online system. Full details of the programme and its changes will be announced at the launch and will be also available online at: www.hackney.gov.uk/community-partnerships
Individual organisations will be able to apply for grants using a new online system. The grants will be offered across six themes: promoting work opportunities; raising educational achievement and aspirations; promoting health, well-being and independent living; helping to make Hackney safer; developing good neighbourhoods; and supporting environmental sustainability.
Cllr Jonathan McShane, Hackney Council Cabinet Member for Health, Social Care and Culture, said: "The Council is fully supportive of the excellent work delivered by its voluntary and community sector, who provide support for so many of our residents. I'm delighted that despite economic difficulties we have been able to continue to offer grants to support this vital work. Those interested should make sure they attend the launch event for more details of how they might be able to access the funding, with the main grant launched in July and smaller grants later in the year."
Last year, 75 organisations received a share of £2.5 million to deliver a range of projects such as holiday play schemes for children and young people, health advice, employment support advice and improved safety in the borough.
Council officers will be on hand at the event to give more information about the support available and eligibility criteria, and to explain how other voluntary and community sector organisations have benefited from funding.
