1960s music legend to play Vortex

Mike HeronMike Heron, along with Clive Palmer and Robin Williamson, formed the Incredible String Band, the visionary pioneers of psychedelic folk in the 1960s. Their second album, The 5000 Spirits Or The Layers Of The Onion, turned the band into international superstars, playing the Albert Hall, Filmore East and Woodstock. The album was highly praised by Bob Dylan, was Paul McCartney's record of the year, and was described by Robin Denselow in the Guardian as 'rival the Beatles in being the most important influence in song-writing'. The String Band went on to make several more classic albums - such as The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter (reaching no. 5 in the UK charts) and Wee Tam and the Big Huge - before disbanding.

Mike is playing at the Vortex on Monday 29 August, along with one of the new heroes of British folk/country/rock, Trembling Bells, a young foursome of enormous talent who will shortly be recording with Will Oldham.

Don't miss this opportunity to span the eras of British folk with some of its most celebrated performers.

The Vortex, 29 August at 8.30pm, £15 entry
