'Behind Closed Doors' is a collection of short dramas that reflect on the impact of recession in our personal lives.
A teenage brother and sister with a runaway mum and an alcoholic dad, struggle to keep their younger siblings out of care, and hope for some kind of a future. They battle temptation when it comes their way in the form of 'stash n cash' from a drug dealer. The neighbour's dog drives them mad in the background.
A single mum and her under employed 24 year old daughter wrestle with the threat of redundancy, their reality versus their expectations, and the owners of dogs who crap outside their front door.
An unemployed graduate holds court with imaginary judge and jury (parts played by living doll and talking dog), wanting to blame her mum for not overseeing her education better; but ultimately facing the truth she must go to her Jobstart interview.
Two boys with apparently little in common, form a bond over the Internet. With the backdrop of the 2011 Clapham riots, transcending their different worlds, they find that they're kindred spirits.
A young couple break up over redundancy, false hope and false promises.
The sextet of short dramas is completed with a parable in which an angel, the Grim Reaper and a 'realist' debate perspective.
11:11 Productions offer a window on contemporary life and our hopes, fears and expectations. The writing is touching, humorous and dark at points, but not an overly negative look at the World. 'Behind Closed Doors' is a collection of young, energetic performances, throwing up the dilemmas of today for those with an uncertain future to face and no clear path to follow. It is good to see so many young actors on stage together over the course of an enjoyable evening. Maximising floor space to create a split stage, the company also make great use of The Lion's window out onto Church St with 'tavern to street repartee' : hilarious from the audience's perspective and guaranteed to surprise a few passers by.
