Talks at the Tower
Life and Death on Balls Pond Road
Ken Worpole on the novelist, Jerry O'Neill
In 1967 Jerry O'Neill took over The Duke of Wellington Pub in Balls Pond Road, Hackney, creating the Sugawn Theatre, a venue for poetry, drama, music and related gatherings. O'Neill himself was an accomplished novelist and playwright, and in this talk Ken Worpole discusses his vibrant fiction, much of it dealing with Irish life in Hackney and East London, with pubs, building sites, crime and unlicensed mayhem. The talk will be accompanied by readings from the novels by actor Johnny Vivash.
