The first recorded sighting in England of a Mr Punch puppet was made in
1662 in the diary of Samuel Pepys. As part of The Big Grin, a nationwide
celebration of Mr Punch's 350th birthday, the V&A Museum of Childhood
is dedicating a photography exhibition, a display of historic puppets
and a series of family events to the face of fun, slapstick and British
summer time.
This will be the only UK exhibition dedicated to Mr Punch
in this anniversary year.

"Welcoming over 400,000 visitors through its doors every year, the V&A Museum of Childhood in London's Bethnal Green houses the Victoria and Albert Museum's collection of childhood-related objects and artefacts, spanning the 1600s to the present day.
The collection includes toys - including dolls, dolls' houses, puppets and teddy bears - games, childcare, clothing, furniture and art and photography.
