| Peles Empire exhibition |
|
Peles Empire is a collaborative project by Barbara Wolff and Katharina Stoever, founded in 2005 in Frankfurt. The current exhibition is by Kerstin Cmelka, called Flirtations and Partners.
The project borrows its name from the Romanian Peles, a historism castle built in 1883. The rooms of the castle have been built in or were influenced by different architectural styles from the past centuries, including Art Deco, Orientalism, Renaissance and Rococo. Peles Empire recreates rooms from this castle in form of wallpaper made from A3 colour copies, bringing it into an art context, and inviting artists to show or curate exhibitions within the room installation.
In a working process over 5 years, Peles Empire has reproduced eight different rooms in Frankfurt, London, Los Angeles, Basel, Antwerp and Bremen, and organised over 20 exhibitions for these spaces.
